Where did the pastry pouches come from?

The funny name is, of course, related to the appearance, because if we do not press the bags intentionally or unintentionally along their entire length, they “grin” during baking, and the result reminds many of a frog’s mouth.
In addition to this label, others are also used, mainly frog mouths or spouts, but those that refer to another shape to which this candy is similar, shells, clams or small pouches
In the basic recipe, the dough is made from only four ingredients, flour, fat, eggs and vinegar. But there are also variants that also contain sugar or use puff pastry.
What you fill the frogs’ mouths or pastry pouches with mainly depends on your preferences. Most recipes mainly use a nut filling, but jam, poppy seeds and apples are also widely used.
