Lemon stars

Stars are an essential decoration for Christmas. Why not include them in your kitchen too?

Liven up your Christmas board with lemon stars that are pretty to look at and taste great.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 1 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg

Decoration:

  • 1 egg for brushing
  • ground walnuts and granulated sugar for sprinkling

Method

  • Sift plain flour with icing sugar, freshly grated lemon zest, lemon juice, and butter into a bowl. Cut the mixture into pieces.
  • Make a smooth dough, wrap it in cling film, and let it rest in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
  • Then, roll out the dough on a floured rolling pin into a thin sheet.
  • Cut out stars from the dough (you can, of course, choose another shape), transfer them to a tray lined with baking paper, and bake in an oven preheated to 350°F.
  • Bake for about 9 minutes. While still hot, roll the lemon candy in a mixture of powdered sugar and vanilla and let it cool.
  • Store the finished stars in a candy box and let them rest for 1-2 weeks. This will soften the candy. In addition, the lemon will spread beautifully inside, intensifying the flavor of the candy.

Lemon cookies with cream

Don’t worry about the sourness of the lemon wedges.

The sugar balances the sweetness, and the lemon adds a refreshing taste.

Try our recipe for a sweet-and-sour treat!

Ingredients

Lemon dough:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • Juice and peel from ½ chemically untreated lemon

Butter Lemon Cookie Cream:

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 5 tablespoons of cane sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Lemon Frosting for Cookies:

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of hot water

Method

  • Sift the flour and sugar into a bowl, and add the chopped butter, egg yolks, juice, and lemon zest.
  • Make a smooth dough from the mixture and let it rest overnight in the refrigerator.
  • The next day, put the dough on a floured roll and put cling film over it. Roll out the dough through the film. Thanks to the food foil, the dough will not stick to the rolling pin.
  • Remove the foil and start cutting out the circles. Place them on a tray lined with baking paper and bake at 360°F for 7-8 minutes.
  • Leave the baked circles to cool, and then cover them with lemon cream. Finally, pour the lemon glaze over the glued circles.

Lemon cream for cookies:

  • Boil a pot of water on the stove and place a stainless steel bowl on it. You want to create a water bath.
  • Beat the eggs in a bowl, add the sugar, and beat everything until the mixture is thick.
  • Set the mixture aside. Take another bowl, in which you beat the softened butter into a foam, and gradually beat the finished egg mixture.
  • Beat everything together until smooth. Add the juice of half a lemon, beat again, and glue the cooled circles with the resulting cream.

Lemon Icing:

  • Put the sugar in a bowl, add the water and lemon juice, and mix very thoroughly until the icing is smooth.

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 lemon

Method

  • Mix the flour and sugar in a large bowl and add the butter and egg yolks.
  • Squeeze the lemon and pour the fresh juice into the mixture. Mix everything well.
  • Using your hands, begin kneading the dough until everything comes together and the dough is shiny. This will take about 5-7 minutes.
  • Once the dough is ready, form it into a “ball” and cover the bowl with cling film. Then, place the dough in the refrigerator and let it cool.
  • While the dough is resting, preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Once the dough is set, remove it from the fridge and roll it out on a floured surface. The dough should be rolled out to about 0.1 inches.
  • Now, it’s up to you what kind of cutter you choose. Whether you want to make lemon circle-shaped cookies or cookies in the shape of stars, we have chosen the bird (owl) shape for this recipe.
  • Beat one egg in a bowl. Brush each cut-out cookie separately with this egg. This will give the cookies a golden tinge when baking.
  • Sprinkle the candy with coarse sugar. It will create a beautiful snow effect.
  • Place the prepared cookies in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until they start to brown nicely.
  • Let the finished cookies cool and serve.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (let melt at room temperature)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Lemon Frosting for Christmas Cookies:

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Method

Dough:

  • Before preparing the dough, preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and lemon zest in a medium bowl.
  • In another bowl, beat together the butter and sugar using an electric mixer. Beat until the mixture is fluffy.

  • Place the cookies in the oven and bake until the edges are golden. It will take about 15-20 minutes.
  • Then, remove the cookies and let them cool for 2 minutes. Spread them with the prepared lemon glaze, and you’re done.

Lemon Frosting for Cookies:

  • Pour the water into the bowl and slowly whisk the sugar into it.
  • Whisk until the frosting becomes a smooth, thicker consistency. If necessary, sift the sugar before using.
  • Add lemon juice to the mixture and stir.
  • Spread the finished glaze on the cookies and let it harden. A beautiful, shiny glaze will form on it.

The topping can be used to cover Christmas lemon cookies or to dip them whole.
