This lard cookie recipe doesn’t require many ingredients, and the cookies are instantly pliable.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of lard
  • 34/ cup of all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup of powdered sugar
  • 4 spoons of cocoa
  • Baking Chocolate
  • Nuts or candied fruit for decoration

Method:

  1. First, mix the loose ingredients – i.e., flour, sugar, and cocoa.
  2. Add room temperature lard to the mixture.
  3. Process the soft dough and then form balls about 1.2 inches in diameter.
  4. Prepare baking paper on a baking sheet and place the lard balls on it.
  5. Make a hole in each with your finger and bake in a preheated oven at 248°F for about 15 minutes (cakes are dried rather than baked).
  6. Fill baked lard cakes with chocolate melted in a water bath and decorate with almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, or candied fruit.

You can decorate them with marmalade, chocolate, or nuts or leave them alone. They are excellent on their own!

Gingerbread from lard

Lard gingerbreads bring with them a typical aroma. There are many recipes for them, and everyone has their own trick.

In this case, it is a recipe using lard. Thanks to the lard, the gingerbread is immediately soft, and you do not need to bake it beforehand.

Ingredients:

  • 4 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup lard
  • 2 spoons of honey
  • 1 baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon gingerbread spice
  • a pinch of baking soda (on the tip of a teaspoon)
  • 2 tablespoons of Dutch cocoa
  • 5 eggs

For the frosting:

  • 1 egg white
  • 3/4 cup of powdered sugar
  • a teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of potato starch

Method:

  1. First, mix all the loose ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, spices, baking soda, cocoa).
  2. Add honey, 4 eggs, and lard (softened to room temperature).
  3. Knead the dough and let it rest for a while.
  4. Then roll it into a flat cake about 0.2 inches thick and cut out any shapes you like.
  5. Place on a tray lined with baking paper. an egg.
  6. Bake at 356°F for about 7 minutes and brush the still-warm gingerbread with the remaining beaten egg.
  7. Prepare the frosting by beating the ingredients, ideally with an electric beater. You can adjust the ideal density with the amount of lemon juice.

Lard crescent cookies with lemon glaze

We are definitely not done with lard yet. It also adds great taste and elasticity to another popular type of Christmas candy – crescent moons.

This recipe allows you to decide whether to make a light version of the dough, a dark version with cocoa, or a little bit of both. The lemon glaze on top gives the right fresh finish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of softened lard
  • 1 cup of coarse flour
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 4 egg whites
  • baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons of cocoa (use a high-quality cocoa powder)

For the frosting:

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of warm water

Method:

  1. Whip the egg whites until stiff and then mix with the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Pour the dough onto a greased and lined tray or baking paper and bake at 356°F for about 20-25 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare the lemon glaze by mixing well-sifted icing sugar with lemon juice and warm (not hot) water.
  4. Allow the baked dough to cool and then spread the frosting.
  5. Leave the frosting to harden in a cool place and then cut out crescents one after the other using a rolling pin.

  • 1 cup lard
  • 1/2 cup of hazelnuts or walnuts
  • 1 egg
  • 1 spoon of cocoa
  • ½ teaspoon of cinnamon

Method:

  1. Mix the flour together with the sugar, cocoa, and cinnamon.
  2. Add lard warmed to room temperature, eggs, and work on the dough.
  3. Let it rest for a while, and then roll it into balls and wrap them in chopped nuts.
  4. Make patties and bake them at 356°F for about 15-20 minutes.
