Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup ground walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla sugar (for sprinkling)
  • 4 tablespoons powdered sugar (for sprinkling)

Method

  • Combine the sifted flour, sifted icing sugar, and ground walnuts in a large bowl. Add the vanilla extract and mix.
  • Grate the cooled butter and add to the bowl.
  • Mix all the ingredients by hand until you have a dough. It will take about 2-3 minutes.
  • Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, mix the extra powdered sugar with the vanilla sugar in a medium bowl and set aside for later.
  • Take a piece of dough, roll it into a ball, then shape it into a sausage shape, finally shape it into a crescent, and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 390°F for about 8 minutes.
  • When finished, let them cool slightly, then carefully pour them into a bowl with mixed sugar and carefully coat them in sugar.

Puffed walnut rolls with chocolate

What will we need

  • 300 g semi-coarse flour
  • 375 g ground walnuts
  • 660 g of powdered sugar
  • 3 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 375 g of butter
  • table of chocolate for cooking

Method

  • Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, nuts and sugar.
  • Add the softened butter and knead the dough.
  • Press the prepared dough into the molds for rolls.
  • Place in a preheated oven at 170°C and bake until golden, about 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Knock them out of the molds while still warm.
  • Meanwhile, melt the cooking chocolate in a water bath and dip the completely cooled puffed walnut rolls into it.

Linzer Kipferl – Austrian Chocolate Dipped Crescent Sandwich Cookies

These Linzer Kipferl are very easy to make.

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 sticks plus 1 ½ tbsp butter
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon zest
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • pinch of salt

For filling

  • 2 oz whole milk
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup finely ground walnuts
  • lemon zest from half a lemon
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar mixed with vanilla sugar (for sprinkling)

Method

  • Mix the flour, a pinch of salt, and the chopped butter in a large bowl until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Add one teaspoon of lemon zest and sour cream and knead until it comes together into a soft dough.
  • Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • Bring the milk to a boil in a saucepan, add the powdered sugar, nuts, and the zest of half a lemon, and mix well.
  • Let cool completely.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface.
  • Cut out circles with a cookie cutter with a diameter of 3 inches.
  • Place one teaspoon of walnut filling on each wheel.
  • Gently roll and shape into a crescent shape (roll).
  • Bake for about 25 minutes.
  • Even immediately after baking, coat them in the sugar mixture.

Method

  • Beat in the sugar, vanilla extract, and softened butter.

  • Bake at 350°F for about 12 minutes or until the bottoms of the rolls are lightly browned.
  • Then let them cool for about 5 minutes and roll them while still warm in a mixture of vanilla and powdered sugar. Allow the candy to cool completely and roll again in powdered sugar.
